Boiler installation and replacement in Edinburgh
A replacement boiler should suit the home and the people using it. Talk to CWF about your heating, hot water demand and the work needed before choosing a system.
Start with your home, not just a model number
Tell us whether you are replacing a faulty boiler, updating an existing system or planning a conversion. A survey helps establish the current pipework, available space and household hot-water needs. The number of bathrooms, how often taps and showers run together, and incoming water supply all matter when choosing suitable equipment.
We discuss access to the boiler and pipework, flue routing and termination, condensate drainage and the controls you want to use. Moving a boiler or changing the system can involve more work than a replacement in the same position. Any access restrictions or proposed building work should be raised before the scope is agreed.
Combi, system or regular: what is the difference?
Combi boilers
A combi heats water when a hot tap is opened and usually avoids a separate hot-water cylinder. It can suit homes where space is limited, but simultaneous demand and the incoming water supply need checking. A larger boiler alone does not solve every flow-rate problem.
System boilers
A system boiler works with a hot-water cylinder and has several heating components built into the boiler. Stored hot water may help a household with several outlets in use, provided the cylinder and wider system are correctly sized and suitable.
Regular boilers and conversions
A regular boiler generally works with a separate cylinder and feed arrangements, often including loft tanks. Retaining this type can be appropriate for some existing systems. Converting to a combi or system boiler changes the equipment and may require pipework, cylinder or tank alterations. We explain the practical options after reviewing what is there.
A written scope before installation
The quote should identify the proposed boiler model, controls, location and installation work, together with inclusions, exclusions and any work by other trades. Ask how access, making good and changes discovered during the job will be handled. Price and the proposed programme are confirmed for the agreed work rather than assumed from a headline package.
As appropriate to the job, discuss removal and disposal of old equipment, system cleaning and water treatment, commissioning checks, relevant registration or notification, and the handover. The completed system and controls should be explained, with the documents and instructions relevant to the installation. Cleaning requirements depend on the existing system and manufacturer instructions; a power flush is not automatically the answer.
Vaillant, Glow-worm and the agreed guarantee
CWF installs Vaillant and Glow-worm boilers. We discuss a suitable model and controls alongside the installation requirements, rather than choosing by brand alone. Our boiler overview includes the manufacturer information and logos.
Ask for the manufacturer guarantee term and conditions for the particular model and quote. Registration, commissioning, servicing and other requirements may apply. We confirm what is included and which ongoing responsibilities sit with the owner; no universal guarantee length or eligibility is promised.
USEFUL TO KNOW
Your questions
Can you replace a boiler without changing the whole heating system?
Sometimes. The existing radiators, pipework, controls and water condition need assessing for compatibility. The survey and quote explain which parts can stay and what needs changing.
Should I convert my regular boiler to a combi?
That depends on your household demand, water supply, space and existing system. Keeping stored hot water may be sensible in some homes. We explain both options and the work involved before you decide.
What helps with an installation enquiry?
Send your Edinburgh postcode, current boiler make and model, its location, the number of bathrooms and what you want to improve. Photos of accessible equipment are useful for a planned enquiry; a survey may still be needed.
Does a new boiler need annual servicing?
Follow the chosen manufacturer’s maintenance requirements. Servicing conditions may affect the guarantee. Ask about the specific model’s requirements at handover and use our servicing page to plan future maintenance.
